I am an intermedia artist primarily working with performance, sculpture, installation, photography and moving image.

My artistic practice and research consist of long-term projects investigating anxiety, trauma, shame and initiation experience. I am particularly interested in the way anxiety manifests itself in the everyday life of a modern city dweller, from neuroses and complexes characteristic of contemporary society to narrower community-specific issues of cultural shock, cross-cultural adjustment and personality breakdown and transformation.

Another focus of my research lies in the realm of internal conflicts and the daily invisible struggle with oneself that is waged by a person recognizing the irrationality and abnormality of their fears, compulsions, and obsessions, as well as the contradiction between their thoughts and behaviour and the implicit social norms and expectations of their community.

This is also reflected in my interest in the topic of taboos in contemporary societies and subcultures, which began with my research into taboo sexuality in post-Soviet society and is now being studied by me in the context of taboo topics in countries with an imperial past.

One of my ongoing projects explores how an exaggerated manifestation of socially praised feelings and behavioural patterns leads to their transformation into their complete opposite: dependence, psychosis and attempts to establish control and subjugate the object of emotion.

My art is deeply personal, yet I use my memories as a trigger and legitimising foundation for public observations on universal philosophical and anthropological problems of our time.

I am currently based in London and exhibit worldwide.
